Kansas City is holding Community Summit #2 for Reconnecting the East Side project on June 24, 2025. The focus of the first community summit in March was defining the "purpose and need" through community feedback. The goal of this upcoming summit is to present some initial alternatives based on the community feedback that has been gathered. Community feedback given at this meeting will help shape a long-term vision that can be implemented over the coming years. Click here to read the news release!

Reconnecting the East Side aims to provide safe transportation improvements for the community, as well as address some of the long-standing issues created when US-71 Highway construction divided neighborhoods, from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard on the north to 85th Street on the south. This project is a partnership between Kansas City, Missouri Department of Transportation and the Mid-America Regional Council. Check out the Reconnecting the East Side website!
