Kansas City is holding a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate construction on the streetscape project on 31st Street, from Main Street to Gillham Road. This event will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on October 1, 2025. Improvements in this project include: 

• Compliant pedestrian signals with audible and vibrotactile indications
• Curb extensions (bump outs) around on-street parking
• Improved sight lines
• Relocated and consolidated bus stops (31 and 85 lines) with improved accessibility
• Native landscaping (native plantings, trees, and shrubs)
• Pedestrian refuge spaces, a curb or island (creating a barrier between traffic and pedestrians)
• Raised crosswalks (non-signalized locations)
• Widening and clearing sidewalk paths by relocating street and decorative lights and other obstructions
