The Kansas City Public Works Department will hold an online and telephone public hearing on Monday, November 19 to go over a set of planned updates to the City’s construction standards.
Public Works plans by January 2026 to enact the following updates to municipal construction standards by January 2026:
New standard drawings and revisions to the following items:
- Major Street Plan
- Standard drawing for Sidewalk Cafes and Street section details.
The following Specifications and standard drawings will transfer from Public Works to Water Services:

- BCI(-S)(-SD) – Brick Curb inlet
- CI-1 – Curb Inlet – Type 1
- CI-2, Curb Inlet – Type 2
- CI-3 – Curb Inlet (Precast Details)
- FI-1 – Field Inlet Details
- FI-1(M) – Field Inlet Details (Metric)
- GI-1 – Grate Inlet Details
- GI-1M – Grate Inlet Details (Metric)
- JB-1 – Junction Box Details
- JB-1(M) – Junction Box Details (Metric)
- MH-1 – Manhole Details
- MH-1(M) – Manhole Details (Metric)
- MH-B – Manhole – Brick 4’ or 5’ Diameter
- MH-D(M) – Manhole Details
- MH-CP – Manhole – Cast in Place 4’ or 5’ Diameter
- MH-DB – Developed Base Manhole – Precast Concrete 4’ or 5’ Diameter
- MH-OD – Outside Drop Use with any Standard Manhole
- MH-RC – Manhole Ring and Cover
- MH-S – Manhole Step
- PB-2 – Pipe Bedding Cradle for Sanitary Sewer Pipe
