Project Description:
This project will improve the interchange at Chouteau Trafficway and Interstate 35.
Currently, the inadequate storage and lack of interconnection of modern signals causes northbound traffic on Chouteau Trafficway to block the southbound movement from Chouteau to I-35. Additionally, I-35 off-ramp traffic causes the off-ramp to queue back onto the mainline I-35.
Another big issue that needs to be addressed at this interchange is the lack of facilities for non-motorized travelers. Pedestrians are forced to walk adjacent to the street and the traffic signals do not have pedestrian accommodations.
Proposed improvements include:
- New traffic signals at the interchange
- An additional northbound through lane on Chouteau Trafficway
- Traffic signal interconnect
- A 10-foot multi-use trail underneath the I-35 Bridge and connecting to the Lakewood Greenway Trail.
This project is a partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Funds are provided by GO Bonds and federal funding.
