Project Description:

Improvements are needed to the segment of Red Bridge Road between Holmes Road and Wornall Road due to traffic congestion and long wait times during peak hours at the Red Bridge and Wornall intersection and inefficient flow of traffic at non-peak hours. Factors contributing to this are outdated traffic signals, in addition to an insufficient and unbalanced lane configuration at the intersection. Additionally, sight line issues make turning right on a red light difficult and dangerous.

Improvements are also needed for the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists on this segment of the corridor. Currently, this section lacks accessibility and connectivity for bicyclists and pedestrians, as well as a continuous walkable route.  Proposed improvements include:

  • New traffic signals at Wornall and Holmes Road
  • A 5-foot sidewalk on the north side of Red Bridge Road
  • A 10-foot multi-use trail on the south side of Red Bridge Road
  • Additional traffic lanes on Red Bridge Road
  • New enclosed storm drainage system
  • New curb and gutter
  • New street lighting
  • Decorative plantings and storm water management installations

This project is currently under design.   Red Bridge Road is expected to remain open during construction.
