    Project Description:

    gillham cycletrack photo south

This project will install Complete Streets improvements--improved pedestrian crossings and a two-way cycle track-- on Gillham Road from 39th Street to Armour Boulevard, completing the gap in the existing facility.

The goals of this project align with KCMO's Complete Street ordinance to make our streets safer and more accessible for all users: bicyclists, pedestrians, transit-users, and vehicles. This project also completes an important bikeway link connecting Midtown to Downtown. Once complete, the cycle track will extend from Brush Creek Boulevard to McGee Trafficway, a nearly 2.5 mile protected bicycle facility.

    Project improvements include:

    • Traffic calming and improved pedestrian crossings on cross streets
    • An on-street, two-way cycle track from 39th St. to Armour Boulevard
    •

      Project Background:

      • Previous public engagement process took place through the 2017 Gillham Road Planning Sustainable Places Study
      • Recommendations from this plan informed the final project design
      • The KCMO staff mobility committee met monthly in 2019 to refine the conceptual design and come up with an implementable project
      • Project funding is provided by fourth district Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC) funds.

      Public Engagement:

City staff held a virtual public meeting on May 25, 2021 to discuss the project, construction timeline and facilitate a Q&A and discussion with stakeholders and residents.

      Traffic Impact:

This project is currently in the design phase and there is no impact to traffic at this time.

      Project Timeline:

The project team is currently wrapping up the design and striping plans. We anticipate starting the project in summer 2021 and the entire project is anticipated to wrap up in fall 2021, dependent on project funds and weather.
