Design Phase - KCMO Capital Projects (Public Works)
Project Update:
Posted, June 29, 2021:
Due to neighborhood feedback along the corridor, the project boundaries have been updated. The project will now include a two-way cycle track on American Royal Drive from Cesar Chavez to State Line Road. KCMO Public Works will continue a dialogue with the surrounding neighborhood groups and stakeholders on compromise solution that works for everyone.
Project Description:
This project will install a two-way cycle track on American Royal Drive from Cesar Chavez to State Line Road near Hyvee Arena.
The goals of this project align with KCMO's Complete Street ordinance and Vision Zero policy to make our streets safer and more accessible for all users: bicyclists, pedestrians, transit-users, and vehicles. This project also completes an important, one-mile bikeway link connecting the West Side neighborhood to the West Bottoms, (and Missouri to Kansas) via a protected bicycle facility.
Project improvements include:
Traffic calming and improved pedestrian crossings on cross streets
An on-street, two-way cycle track from Cesar Chavez to State Line Rd.
The design will be similar to the Gillham cycle track, installed in 2020 and 2021 through Midtown KCMO. See the photo to the right for an example of a two-way cycle track.
This project is currently in the design phase and there is no impact to traffic at this time.
Project Timeline:
The project team is currently wrapping up the design and striping plans. We anticipate starting the project in mid-summer 2021 and the entire project is anticipated to wrap up in fall 2021, dependent on project funds and weather.
