    Project Description:  IMG_0266

This project will identify potential improvements for accessibility for bicycle and bus mobility along the 11th and 12th Street corridors between Wyandotte Street and Troost Avenue.

The 11th and 12th Street corridors are the busiest bus corridors in the entire Metro. Identifying a design that improves reliability and efficiency for bus service will be a priority. This project will also identify ways to provide an east-west corridor between existing facilities on Grand Boulevard and the Paseo West neighborhood.

The goals of this project align with KCMO's Complete Street ordinance to make our streets safer and more accessible for all users: bicyclists, pedestrians, transit-users, and vehicles.

Study goals include a proposed design that:

    • Provides more reliable bus service through downtown.
    • Includes an east-west bicycle corridor through downtown.

    Public Engagement:

    OPEN HOUSE NOTICE:

When: Wednesday, March 2 from 4 pm to 6 pm

Where: East Village Transit Center at 700 E. 12th St.

What: 11th & 12th Complete Streets Connections public open house to discuss the final recommendations with the City, KCATA, and the Project Team. No formal presentation will occur.

Final Recommendation Information to review prior to the meeting:

    Project Background:

    • 11th and 12th Streets were identified as priority corridors for bikeway improvements as part of a public engagement process in the development of the City’s Bikeway Design Toolkit. This project supports both MARCs Complete Streets Policy and the City’s Livable Streets Resolution for implementation of the adopted Bike KC plan.
    • KCATA has established 11th and 12th Streets within downtown as “Transit Emphasis Corridors” in prior planning efforts. This led to the realignment of bus routes throughout downtown, the construction of new transit stations along the corridor as part of Prospect MAX in 2019, and the opening of East Village Transit Center in 2020.
    • The current RideKC Next system redesign project further emphasizes 11th and 12th Streets as the primary transit corridors in downtown. This service redesign maximizes the use of new infrastructure in the corridor and enhances regional mobility with a simpler and more efficient network with easier connections.

    Traffic Impact:

This project is currently in the study phase and there is no impact to traffic at this time.

    Project Timeline:

The project team is currently analyzing existing conditions, reviewing previously approved plans, and identifying current best practices. We anticipate public involvement to begin in Fall 2021 and the study with final recommendations to be complete in Spring 2022.
