PIAC Projects

Kansas City relies on residents to recommend areas for improvements in the community by submitting a request to the Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC).

If you have submitted a PIAC Project you can search for details of the project with your PIAC number.

Project Description

N. Oak Trafficway, from NE 42nd Street / NE Briarcliff Parkway tmap of the project area for the n oak trafficway reconstruction projecto NE 46th Street (the southern edge of the I-29 interchange), was once included in the Missouri Department of Transportation highway system and has become significantly deteriorated with inconsistent pedestrian accommodations and sidewalk gaps along the corridor.

The improvement project will include:

  • Reconstruction of the 4-lane roadway
  • Adding new pedestrian / bicycle facilities
  • Upgrading streetlighting
  • Enhancing stormwater conveyance
  • Separated storm sewers that divert flow from the combined sewers

This project is funded through STP funds with $5.52 million in federal funding. Construction will start October of 2025 is expected to be completed in June 2026.

Project Engagement

Ahead of the start of construction in October 2025, a final virtual meeting was held August 26, 2025 where finalized plans were presented to the public. A separate public meeting was also held December 4, 2024. Information from that meeting can be viewed here.
