Construction Update

N Green Hills Road is now open to traffic. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 12, 2025 to celebrate the opening of the road. Additional landscaping, seeding and sodding will take place as weather permits, but that work will not impact traffic.
Traffic Control Update:
Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction utilizing the bypass route and however needed on an individual basis.
All through traffic will continue to follow signed detours and digital messaging signs will continue to notify travelers of current traffic control conditions. The current bypass detour can be viewed here.
Project Description
The North Green Hills Road project is located near Lake Waukomis, southeast of KCI airport. The goals of this project are to improve safety, traffic flow, and alignment of N. Green Hills Road from NW 78th Street to NW Barry Road.
Roadway improvements include:
- New pavement with curb and gutter
- New shared use path and sidewalks
- Intersection, drainage and landscaping improvements
- Improved horizontal and vertical alignment
- Retaining walls
- Turn lanes
- Water main installation

Project funding and implementation is in partnership with Platte County and utilizes voter-approved GO Bond Funds. Construction funding was allocated in 2022.

Project Timeline:
Construction on phases 1 through 4 are complete. The project reached substantial completion by the end of 2025.
