Project Description:
A new city-owned parking garage was built at 1819 Lydia Avenue to provide new parking options for the 18th and Vine District. This $20-million project will involve the reconstruction of the surface lot at 18th Street and Lydia Avenue. Developers Grayson Capital will be building multi-family housing around the parking garage. As of May 22, 2026, this parking garage is open to the public.
Parking was free of charge for the first two weeks of operation. The following pricing structure went into effect on June 8, 2026:
Daily parking - $5
Event parking - $10
Monthly parking - $65
World Cup Park & Ride Service:
This garage has been selected to facilitate a Park & Ride service through RideKC during the FIFA World Cup. Park at the Jazz District Garage (1819 Lydia Ave) and take a shuttle to 1905 Walnut Street. This puts riders in the heart of downtown Kansas City, and puts people in walking distance to the KC Streetcar stop at 19th Street and Main Street:
Shuttles will run from mornings to evenings, hours vary on different dates.
Shuttles will be running in approximately 15-minute frequencies.
Pass bundles include one parking pass and four shuttle passes for $22.
Additional shuttle passes can be purchased for $5.75
Single shuttle passes can be purchased on-site.
Round-trip shuttle service using ADA accessible buses included.
In response to community feedback, Kansas City reopened its call for qualified professional artists or artist teams to design, fabricate, and install a permanent public artwork for the 18th & Lydia Parking Garage in the historic 18th & Vine District. The deadline to apply was Monday, April 6, 2026.
Two to five semifinalists will be invited to advance to the RFP phase and submit design proposals.
The maximum budget for the commissioned artwork is $165,000.
Eligibility was limited to professional visual artists or artist teams, age 18 or older, who are based in the Kansas City Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The CSA includes the following counties:
