    Project Update: 12/11/2025

    Portions of the project area will be reopening by mid-December:

    • December 22, 2025:
      • The intersection will be open for N/S on Gillham for vehicular traffic
      • Bike lanes will be closed
      • The west side of 31st St b/w Oak and Gillham will be open
      • The east side of 31st St b/w Gillham and Cherry will be closed
    • January 1, 2026:
      • Bike lanes open
      • The east side of 31st St b/w Gillham and Cherry will be open

    Project Overview

    This streetscape project spans along 31st Street between Main Street and Gillham Road. Phase 1 of the streetscape project includes the following improvements:

    • Compliant pedestrian signals with audible and vibrotactile indications
    • Curb extensions (bump outs) around on-street parking
    • Improved sight lines
    • Relocated and consolidated bus stops (31 and 85 lines) with improved accessibility
    • Native landscaping (native plantings, trees, and shrubs)
    • Raised crosswalks (non-signalized locations)
    • Widening and clearing sidewalk paths by relocating street and decorative lights and other obstructions

    Project Schedule

    Phase 1 construction is expected to began in July 2025. Some parts of 31st Street will open back up in late December 2025, with more portions opening up in early January. Construction is expected to be substantially completed by April 2026.

    Project Impacts

    Temporary construction disruptions such as traffic redirects, street/lane closures and pedestrian detours may impact you at various times. However, access to business storefronts will be maintained throughout construction.
