Construction Updates:
Updated October 24, 2022:
Ribbon cutting held for the completion of N. Brighton Avenue South road improvements. Trees will be planted within the coming weeks.
“It is a very expensive project. It is a very large stretch of road. There are many more millions of dollars that need to be given to continue this project. You will see how much greater it is, and how much safer it is for District 1 and beyond. This area now has ADA accessibility, bike lanes, and safety measures which will benefit residents for years to come,” First District Councilwoman Heather Hall said.
“The importance of this street to the Northland is vital, but together, Councilwoman Heather Hall and I, have made it a priority to connect schools with the communities. With this we now have walkability for so many more neighborhoods for their kids to walk to school. That’s been our goal the entire time in office is to get more roads connected to neighborhoods,” First District Councilman Kevin O’Neil said.
Updated October 11, 2022:
As construction along N Brighton wraps up we wanted to provide an update. The construction punch list walk through happened the week of October 3. Once punch list items and seeding and sod activities are completed in the next couple of weeks the intersection at Pleasant Valley Road will be reopened. Once corridor punch list items and signing and striping is complete the roadway will be reopened. We will have intermittent lane closures for remaining items of work throughout the corridor though November.
Updated August 17, 2022:
We have appreciated your patience throughout construction. Work is wrapping up for completion this fall. While a lot of crews aren't visible, the contractor is working diligently at coordinating subcontractors and the work to be completed. We continue to be on schedule to complete this fall.
Updated November 3, 2021:
Crews will complete work this week on a new road surface on North Brighton Avenue just north of Pleasant Valley Road. No traffic will be permitted through this work zone. This work will begin November 4 and the road will be closed to traffic until November 11.
During this time, motorists will detour west on NE 72nd Street to North Antioch Road, then driving east on Pleasant Valley Road back to the N. Brighton intersection. Local access only to all Charleston Harbor subdivision entrances and residents along this stretch of N. Brighton will be available throughout this detour. When residents are exiting along North Brighton, a northbound traffic pattern will have to be utilized.
For the remainder of the roadway construction through November 2022, Pleasant Valley Road connection East of N. Brighton is closed. Charleston Harbor subdivision entrances, church and residents along this stretch of Pleasant Valley Road will be available throughout this detour. When residents are exiting along Pleasant Valley Road, an eastbound traffic pattern will have to be utilized.
Updated September 21, 2021:
Weather permitting, in mid-October we will be switching traffic to the new pavement and having a one-week closure at the tie-in from existing to proposed just north of NE Pleasant Valley Road. The detour will be from NE 72nd Street to Antioch to Pleasant Valley Road.
Utility delays have pushed the project construction completion date to November 2022.
Updated, March 30, 2021:
Construction work is progressing on the N. Brighton project! NE Pleasant Valley Road will be closed between N. Brighton and N. Lawn Ave. starting April 1, 2021 until December 2021 while contractors move into Phase 2 of construction.
This work will involve building out the west two lanes of N. Brighton and making the connection to NE Pleasant Valley Road. This closure is anticipated to last until December 2021, weather permitting, at which time traffic control and detours will switch to Phase 3. Additionally, NE 67th Terrace between N. Brighton and N. Poplar Ave. will close indefinitely at this time.
Please follow posted detour routes. Local traffic will still have access to get to residences in the area.
Posted, March 18, 2021:
Activity at the project site: Storm sewer materials were delivered last week at the project site. Contractor excavation is starting back up at the site now, so please do not venture off paved detours and a friendly reminder trucks are entering and leaving the roadway.
The Pleasant Valley Road Intersection west of N. Brighton will be closing around April 1st, weather permitting.
Traffic Control Update- Posted March 9, 2021:
The staggered road closed signs are an attempt to bring awareness to N Brighton Avenue being closed to through traffic. We are still getting an enormous number of vehicles traveling to and from north of Pleasant Valley Road through our project area. To lessen the impact on the temporary asphalt roadway, additional signage was placed. Also, we are trying to prevent a hard closure of the roadway due to the failing temporary asphalt roadway under this extra traffic it was not designed to carry.
Please remember that the current speed limit through the construction zone is 30 miles per hour. This is for the public and contractor's safety.
Posted February 23, 2021:
Utility relocation work is wrapping up, which caused delays on roadway construction. The contractors anticipate having a more active presence on the construction site the next several weeks as weather permits.
Posted October 15, 2020:
Utility conflicts are causing some delays on roadway construction. Currently, construction continues on the remaining water line work and relocating power poles. The contractor is anticipated to resume roadway construction in mid-October.
