KCMO swearing in new Mayor & City Council

City Hall ceremony set for Aug. 1 on south steps

Kansas City's next mayor, Quinton Lucas, and 12 city councilmembers officially begin their four-year terms on Thursday with an inaugural ceremony set to take place on the south steps of City Hall.
The public and city employees are invited to the festivities which start at 8:30 a.m. Honor Guards from Kansas City Fire and Kansas City Police departments will present the colors. U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids is scheduled to introduce Mayor Lucas at the event, which is being broadcast live on Channel 2 for those unable to attend.

If it rains, the ceremony moves inside City Hall to the 26th floor.

After the swearing-in, a public reception will be held in the City Hall lobby where refreshments will be served.
