Kansas City is set to launch the Property Owner Support Program (POSP) on January 15, 2025. This program is designed to support Kansas City’s affordable housing market by offering supplemental funds to property owners who rent to tenants using housing vouchers.
The program aims to address challenges that property owners face in the housing voucher process, such as required property inspections and tenant placement delays, which can lead to additional costs or lost revenue. By offering financial support for eligible expenses, the program seeks to encourage property owners to make more housing available for families in need.
In this pilot phase, funds will focus on two key areas:
- Reimbursement for Repairs: Property owners can apply for up to $3,500 per unit (up to ten units on the same property) to cover eligible repair costs beyond what is covered by the security deposit
- Inspection Assistance: Properties that do not meet Housing Authority of Kansas City inspection requirements are eligible for up to $1,000 to assist with necessary upgrades.
Seeded with $1M, the program represents Kansas City’s commitment to reducing barriers for property owners, expanding affordable housing options, and addressing housing insecurity. This program reflects the city’s dedication to creating equitable access to safe, quality housing for all residents.
