Marc Shaw

Mayor Quinton Lucas today announced the appointment of Marc Shaw as interim City Auditor for Kansas City. Shaw brings over two decades of experience as a senior U.S. diplomat leading complex international operations across six presidential administrations. He has developed policies and procedures to better serve American citizens overseas and efficiently use taxpayer dollars at U.S. government facilities worldwide. Shaw is an expert in strategic planning and executive financial oversight and has reformed and executed budgets numbering in the hundreds of millions.

A Kansas City native, Shaw returns home after serving in Washington, D.C., and overseas in several roles with significant management responsibilities. Most recently, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, where he led the State Department's efforts on issues related to global compliance on various arms control treaty regimes, worked with allies and partners endeavoring to eliminate the international use of biological and chemical weapons, and led teams on other issues related to addressing emerging security challenges. He has worked for three Secretaries of State, served as Director of a $1.35 billion narcotics and law enforcement program, and overseen policy implementation of a $1.2 billion security assistance program during his career.

"I am excited to welcome Marc Shaw to Kansas City," said Mayor Lucas. "His extensive background in managing complex international operations and his proven ability to find cost-savings for taxpayers and improve operational efficiencies in complicated bureaucracies makes him an ideal fit for interim City Auditor. We are proud to have his service to his country continue in our hometown."

Mr. Shaw began his education at Kansas City Public Schools before attending The Barstow School and Phillips Academy — Andover. He holds a Master of Arts in International Economics and International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Emory University.

A lifelong member of Chiefs Kingdom, Shaw is delighted to return home and contribute to Kansas City's continued growth and development.

"I am humbled by this opportunity and honored to serve as the interim City Auditor of Kansas City," said Shaw. "I am committed to applying my experience in financial management, strategic planning, and operational oversight to ensure the city's fiscal accountability and efficient use of resources."
