Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is proud to announce its participation in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, a global initiative designed to support travelers with hidden disabilities.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program allows individuals to discreetly indicate that they have a non-visible disability and may need additional assistance, understanding, or more time. By wearing a Sunflower lanyard, pin, wristband, or ID card, travelers can communicate their needs without disclosing their specific condition, ensuring a more comfortable journey. Sunflower lanyards can be picked up at the information desk on the arrivals level, between baggage claims 5 and 6.

“Kansas City International Airport is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all travelers,” said Melissa Cooper, Director of Aviation. “The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program is another step toward ensuring that every passenger receives the understanding and support they need.”

Cooper also emphasized the importance of this program in making Kansas City a welcoming destination.

“Our city is proud to embrace this initiative, reflecting our commitment to ensuring that all residents and visitors feel valued and supported,” she continued.

Airport staff and partners have been trained to recognize the Sunflower symbol and aid passengers wearing it. Travelers can request a free Sunflower item at MCI’s information desks or security checkpoints.

MCI joins a global network of over 230 airports that have adopted the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, providing discreet support to passengers with non-visible disabilities.
