For Immediate Release: Tuesday, June 24th, 2025
Kansas City is proud to welcome Brenton Siverly as its new Deputy Director of Finance, where he will lead the City’s Budget and Revenue Divisions and oversee long-term financial strategy, tax administration, and revenue forecasting. He officially joins the team on June 23, 2025.
In this critical role, Brenton will be responsible for guiding the City’s annual budgeting process—one of the most essential tools for delivering services to Kansas Citians. He will also oversee tax collection and administration as well as help shape the financial strategies that support Kansas City’s priorities and investments.
Brenton brings a strong background in public finance, including high-level budget management for major public institutions. He most recently served as Director of Finance for the Schools of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center. His prior roles include Assistant Budget Director for the State of Missouri, where he helped oversee a $35 billion budget, and Deputy Budget Director for the City of Chicago.
As part of his appointment, the City is realigning the Finance Department’s structure to better integrate budget planning with revenue forecasting and tax collection and administration. Both the Budget and Revenue Divisions will now report directly to the Deputy Director, allowing for stronger coordination and long-term planning. A new Budget Manager position will be created to oversee daily operations, enabling Brenton to focus on strategy, cross-departmental collaboration, and big-picture fiscal leadership.
Brenton holds both a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Missouri State University.
“We’re excited to welcome Brenton to the Finance Department and to the City of Kansas City,” said Finance Director Tammy Queen. “He’s a proven leader with the experience and insight to help us manage resources responsibly and build a stronger financial future.”
“Brenton brings the experience and perspective needed to lead one of the City’s most important functions—our budget,” said City Manager Mario Vasquez. “He has the type of commitment and enthusiasm for public service that will help us align resources, support departments, and deliver for residents across Kansas City.”
Brenton’s appointment is part of Kansas City’s broader effort to modernize financial operations and ensure the City remains a good steward of public dollars. His leadership will be crucial in developing budgets that reflect community priorities and deliver meaningful results throughout the city.
