Repairs to water mains can be expensive. KC Water maintains repairs on all water mains up to the curb box on a private property, from that point on any repairs are the responsibility of the property owner.

Most often these repairs are unplanned events for a homeowner and are sometimes not covered by regular homeowners’ insurance. To help customers be covered, KC Water partners with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA).

Customers may have received letters from SLWA in their mailboxes recently. KC Water wants to assure you that this is a legitimate program and not a scam. Learn more about what options are offered by SWLA.

While the insurance is not through KC Water, the department does receive commission from each water policy sold. All money raised through the commission is used to pay off lingering debts from delinquent water accounts. From there, any remaining funds are used to help with utility assistance programs like the MId-America Assistance Program.
