KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas today welcomed news that the beloved Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso" will be filming in Kansas City, marking another major victory for the city's rapidly expanding film industry and bringing one of television's most celebrated shows to the heartland.
"Having ‘Ted Lasso’ choose Kansas City as a filming location is a tremendous honor and a perfect homecoming for our friend, Jason Sudeikis," said Mayor Lucas. "‘Ted Lasso’ embodies the same values of community, optimism, and resilience that define Kansas City. The production will showcase Kansas City's unique character and beauty to audiences worldwide while providing significant economic benefits to our local film community."
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, “Ted Lasso” joins Kansas City's impressive roster of recent film and television projects made possible by the combined incentives from both the state of Missouri and the City of Kansas City. Since Missouri passed its state film incentive in July 2023, Kansas City has attracted 15 major projects, including 11 feature films and three television series. With the combined state and local incentive programs, Kansas City now offers the highest possible incentive percentage in the country.
"‘Ted Lasso’ filming in Kansas City represents everything we've been working toward," said KC Film Office Director Rachel Kephart. "This is exactly the type of high-profile, quality production that demonstrates Kansas City's appeal as a premier filming destination."
The announcement comes as Kansas City continues to establish itself as a growing filmmaking hub. Of the feature films made in Missouri in 2024, 60% were produced in the Kansas City area, primarily driven by the city's successful local incentive program, established eight years prior.
Recent successes include the Kansas City Chiefs and Hallmark collaboration "Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story," which became the most-watched cable movie of the year, and "The Motherhood," a Hallmark series that premiered in May.
Projects supported by the KC Film Office in 2024 generated an estimated economic impact of over $20 million on the region, bringing jobs, boosting local businesses, and showcasing Kansas City's diverse locations and talented workforce to national audiences.
The “Ted Lasso” filming is expected to provide numerous opportunities for local cast, crew, and vendors, while highlighting Kansas City's distinctive neighborhoods, landmarks, and culture to the show's dedicated global fan base.
