For Immediate Release: July 31, 2025
Kansas City has been selected to join the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance, a coalition of local governments across the country working together to use data to improve city services.
Through this collaboration with Bloomberg’s initiative, we will examine our 311-reporting process to identify areas for improvement by enhancing the services we provide to residents.
"Imagine a city that fixes problems before residents even have to report them," said Mayor Quinton Lucas of Kansas City, Missouri. "That's not a pipe dream, it's the future, one Kansas City will be building as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance, which will help us reach this vision. Our city hall has long benefited from working with Bloomberg Philanthropies to drive government innovation, and it is an honor to join this international initiative and receive their support to reach further still."
As we develop this initiative, the City will collect information to improve the efficiency of our 311 hotline system. By identifying current challenges and finding solutions, we aim to respond more quickly to 311 requests and provide equal and prompt service to all residents.
“Our commitment to equitable services across all neighborhoods remains our priority,” said City Manager Mario Vasquez. “This new alliance will allow us to analyze the data to determine whether certain areas are disproportionately affected. We can then adjust and allocate resources that better serve our community.”
The program combines cutting-edge technology with real-world problem-solving. Kansas City will receive technical assistance, access to innovation specialists, and a network of forward-thinking peers to exchange strategies and best practices.
