Kansas City’s One Percent for Art Program is seeking professional artists or artist teams to design a mural for a curved retaining wall at the new outdoor pool at Tony Aguirre Community Center.
Two to five semifinalists will be selected to advance to the Request for Proposals phase and invited to submit design concepts. The total project budget is $9,400. Applications are due by Monday, May 11, 2026.
The mural will complement existing public art at the community center, which is named in honor of Tony Aguirre, a volunteer and mentor who made a lasting impact in Kansas City’s Westside community. The center is home to six mosaic artworks by Concetta Morales that depict scenes from Aguirre’s life and service, including his time as a volunteer coach and Athletic Director at the Guadalupe Center, along with other roles he held in the neighborhood where he spent most of his life.
