For Immediate Release: Friday, April 17, 2026

The Kansas City Council approved a motion to reconsider Ordinance 260250, the Retail Alcohol Impact Area Ordinance, and subsequently adopted an amendment removing the Midtown Corridor from the ordinance’s list of designated Retail Alcohol Impact Areas.

With that amendment, the ordinance now applies to the Blue Ridge Corridor, Central Business District Corridor, Independence Avenue Corridor, and Prospect Avenue-Southeast Corridor.

Ordinance 260250 establishes targeted restrictions on certain retail package alcohol sales in designated areas where chronic public safety, public health, and neighborhood stability concerns have been identified through community feedback, crime data, and the work of the Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force.

The ordinance continues to support the City’s coordinated efforts to address recurring issues tied to certain retail alcohol sales patterns in impacted corridors. As amended, the Midtown Corridor is no longer included in those designated areas.
