Kansas City is holding a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, June 24, to celebrate the completion of the current phase of the Lee’s Summit Road improvement project. The project spans along Lee’s Summit Road from Lakewood Boulevard to Anderson Road and includes numerous upgrades to the corridor.
When: Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 11 a.m.
Where: NW Lee’s Summit Road & NW Space Center Drive (the island near the intersection).
Parking: Attendees park in the small gravel lot off NW Space Center Dr, near the staging area.
Agenda: Remarks will be delivered by Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, Lee’s Summit Mayor Beto Lopez, Independence Mayor Kevin King, Kansas City Mayor Pro Tem and 5th District Councilmember Ryana Parks-Shaw, 5th District at Large Councilmember Darrell Curls, and Assistant City Manager Jeff Martin.
This major reconstruction includes roadway reconfiguration, safety features, and multimodal upgrades. Key improvements include:
- Street realignment and removal of dangerous curves
- Reconfiguration of lanes, one through lane in each direction with a turn lane in the middle
- Widened roadway
- Sidewalks
- Mobility lanes
- Multi-use trail
- Curb and gutters
- Retaining walls
