KANSAS CITY, MO — The City of Entrepreneurs Marketplace, which features over 100 Kansas City businesses and creators and celebrates local creativity and entrepreneurship, is open for its last weekend today through Sunday, July 12.
A collaboration between the City’s Neighborhood Services Department with the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, the Marketplace has seen plenty of success throughout its four-week run so far, with over 92,000 visitors since its opening.
The Marketplace features a broad collection of local businesses, artists and creators, each offering unique products and services for visitors to explore. Rachel Seiffert, a Kansas City resident visiting the Marketplace, found the array of products to reflect the range of creativity in Kansas City.
“I think it shows just how diverse we are,” she said. “There are jewelry shops, there’s artists, there are vintage pop-ups for clothes ... ”
While many Marketplace businesses are embracing the World Cup excitement, shoppers can also find local goods unique to Kansas City to commemorate their love for the City, whether they’re local or just visiting.
Brendan Spicer, a Kansas City resident visiting the space with his colleagues, felt grateful for the chance to shop with familiar brands and to check out local businesses he would not have known about otherwise.
“You’ve got a lot of favorites in the city; You’ve got Made Mobb, you’ve got J. Rieger ... But then there's dozens and dozens of small local vendors that most people- even local, like the three of us- would never get to see.” He said.
The Marketplace is part of a larger goal to strengthen Kansas City’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and create more opportunities for local businesses to grow and thrive.
“Kansas City is home to so much local talent, and we want to give the world a chance to experience the creativity, innovation and art that defines our city,” Assistant Director of the Neighborhoods Services Department Nia Webster said. “Kansas City is on the global stage, and the Marketplace shows what we’re capable of.”
