Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw has represented the 5th City Council District of Kansas City since 2019 - a district she and her family have called home for nearly three decades. In 2023, Mayor Quinton Lucas appointed Ryana as Mayor Pro Tem of Kansas City.
She also serves as the Chair of the Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee and Chair of the Land Bank Commission. She previously served as the Chair of the Mayor's Houseless Task Force, Vice Chair of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission, and Co-Chair of the Health Commission. She is also a member of the Kansas City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board, KC Zoo Board, KC Shepherd Center Board, Starlight Board of Directors, Missouri Municipal League, and North American Strategy for Competitiveness (NASCO) Board.
After graduating from Ruskin High School in the Hickman Mills School District, she achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Missouri State University and a Master of Science degree from Southwest Baptist University. Ryana has had a lifelong passion for community service and improving the quality of life for Kansas Citians. Her memberships in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, have further cemented her proven record as a dedicated neighbor and leader in Kansas City. Ryana's experience as a long-time healthcare executive, small business owner, and former union member fostered her unwavering determination as a champion of working families and local businesses.
Mayor Pro Tem Parks-Shaw has been a member of St. James United Methodist Church in the 5th District for nearly four decades. Ryana is a caring parent, a successful small business owner, an experienced leader, and a proud Kansas Citian.
