Kansas City, MO sounds the sirens when a reliable source, such as the National Weather Service, indicates that a tornado is within Kansas City, MO’s borders or soon will be.  The siren sounds for 10 minutes.  A second siren activation means that another tornado has been detected and does not mean an “all clear.”

Kansas City, MO, also tests the sirens on the first Wednesday of the month at 11:00 am, weather permitting.  Kansas City, MO, may test the sirens on the second Wednesday of the month if unable to test on the first Wednesday.
