The City of Kansas City, MO has adopted provisions into the city's Zoning and Development Code Section 88-305-09 regarding the installation and use of accessory solar energy systems.  The provisions are written to allow solar energy systems as accessory uses on any property in the City in order to encourage the use of solar and other renewable energy systems provided certain minimum requirements are met.

Solar energy system installation plans must be submitted electronically online for review and approval. The CompassKC system (CompassKC Help Guides) makes it possible to complete the entire review, approval, permit issuance, and inspection process online.
