Welcome to the Kansas City Fire Department EMS Education Program

The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) proudly continues the legacy of EMS education established by UMKC. Our mission is to develop compassionate, competent, and ethical clinicians through specialized emergency medical knowledge and psychomotor skills.

We offer comprehensive training for EMTs and paramedics, AHA-certified courses (BLS, ACLS, PALS), and continuing education for licensed healthcare providers. Our goals include preparing entry-level paramedics, enhancing clinical experiences, and fostering community health through collaboration.

About

In January 2025, KCFD assumed sponsorship of the EMS Education Program from the UMKC School of Medicine, with approval from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This transition maintains the same faculty, staff, and curriculum, ensuring continuity and excellence.

Since 2020, KCFD and UMKC have partnered to deliver high-quality EMS training, including classroom instruction, skills labs, clinical rotations, and field experience. Graduates are eligible for National Registry Certifications required for paramedic licensure.

UMKC continues to support the program through an articulation agreement for a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree. We also partner with Columbia Southern University to provide additional educational pathways.
