WELCOME TO KANSAS CITY!

About

The One Percent for Art program was created so that people can be surrounded by art wherever they go. When the City builds or renovates public buildings, streets, bridges, sidewalks, trails, or flood control, a portion of eligible project funds goes toward commissioning new works of art.

Through an open and competitive process, artists can apply for opportunities to create site-specific work that reflects the character, history, and diversity of our community.

Artists can find current opportunities on this page, under the "Open Calls" dropdown, or through CaFÉ (Call for Entry), the platform we use to manage submissions.

How to Apply for Art Opportunities

We encourage participation from artists at a local, national, and international level, which allows for greater diversity in ideas and perspectives and raises our profile in the global arts scene.

The request for qualifications (RFQ) is distributed through our Public Art Opportunities email list, arts organizations, media outlets, City social media channels, and the offices of elected officials.

  • To receive Calls for Artists, visit KCMO.gov/subscribe and enter your email address under the “Public Art Opportunities” dropdown near the bottom of the page.

Artists apply through CaFÉ's website.

  • Create a free artist profile on CaFÉ. (Note that we do not charge artists fees to respond to our Calls for Artists.)
  • Adjust the settings of your notifications on CaFÉ's website to be notified about Calls for Artists.

To apply for most Calls for Artists, artists will need:

  • Resume or CV
  • Letter of interest (including digital images) with information about each image, such as title, date, materials and budget, and location for commissioned works
