The benefits of participating in affordable housing are tremendous. Property owners with certified Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) units can access: 

• Guaranteed monthly assistance payments as long as owner and participant are in compliance with the program requirements. 
• Direct Deposit of assistance payments 
• You choose who you want to rent to 
• Annual inspections by the Housing Authority of Kansas City at no cost 
• Collect a Security deposit (State allowed amount) 
• Use of your own rental lease
• Request financial mitigation relief from the City's Property Owner Support Program

Applying for Registration: 

• All rental property owners are required to register their Kansas City, Missouri rental properties through the Healthy Homes Rental Inspection Program

Renew or Update your Healthy Homes registration: 

• Your Healthy Homes registration is valid for one year following activation. It must be renewed annually and is not transferable. To renew or update your rental registration, you must pay an annual fee.

Kansas City, Missouri

• The Affordable Housing Trust Fund is a city-wide fund to promote, preserve and create long-term affordable housing for extremely low, very low and moderate-income households. 
• Annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funding opportunities for eligible activities. 
• The Central City Economic Development (CCED) Sales Tax funds various activities including the creation and rehabilitation of affordable housing.
• The Lead Safe KC Works program offers free home repairs to eligible applicants.
• Find a licensed contractor through the contractor lookup tool.

• Appeal your property maintenance violations to the Property Maintenance Appeals Board. 

Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City (EDCKC) 

• Incentives: EDCKC provides various incentives and financing for eligible projects. 

Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) 

• Missouri Housing Trust Fund provides funding for a variety of housing needs, such as rehab or new construction of rental housing and rental assistance. 
• MHDC provides funding to qualified organizations and developers for the acquisitions and rehabilitation or new construction of affordable rental housing for low- and moderate-income families.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 

• Multifamily Housing Programs: loans and financial assistance for mortgage payments and construction or repairs, as well as subsidies to provide supportive housing for the elderly and people with disabilities. 

Avoid a costly eviction process:

The Office of Tenant Advocacy provides potential resources for property owners and tenants to resolve issues such as payment assistance. 

Apply for the Property Owner Support Program funds: 

Property owners providing rental units to eligible tenants will be able to apply to the City’s Property Owner Support Program fund for specific reimbursement requests.
