The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) is preparing for its next Firefighter recruitment. KCFD Firefighters protect the lives and property of Kansas City residents and visitors by responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous conditions, and other critical incidents throughout the community.

Firefighters work as part of a highly trained team in a fast-paced environment where sound judgment, physical readiness, teamwork, and a commitment to public service are essential.

What You'll Do

• Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and other emergency incidents.
• Perform fire suppression, search and rescue, and emergency response activities.
• Provide emergency medical assistance and support.
• Operate and maintain firefighting equipment, tools, and apparatus.
• Participate in ongoing training, drills, and physical fitness activities.
• Inspect and maintain equipment and assigned facilities.
• Educate and assist members of the public on fire prevention and safety.
• Work collaboratively with fellow firefighters, emergency responders, and community partners.

The following are anticipated minimum qualifications to apply for the position of firefighter:

• Kansas City, Missouri resident who lives within Kansas City, Missouri city limits. Non-residents must move into the City within 9 months of employment.
• Must be 18 years of age by close of the application period.
• Must not have turned 30 years of age prior to close of the application period.
• High school graduate or possess a state-issued GED/HiSET
• Possess a valid Missouri driver’s license at time of application and appointment.
• Preference may be given to Paramedics
• Minorities and active military personnel are encouraged to apply.
