Housing Court was created to addresses property code violations effecting the health, safety and welfare of neighborhoods.  Offenses can be broken into five basic categories:

  1. illegal dumping
  2. dangerous buildings
  3. property maintenance
  4. nuisance
  5. zoning and building code violations 

Housing Case Assistance Programs

Many defendants have financial, educational and emotional obstacles to code compliance. In these situations, the following options are available.

  • Jerusalem Farms (Northeast). Tool Lending: Extension Ladders and other tools to loan
  • Legal Aid Property Donation Program: Property owner gives house to neighborhood Organization. Neighborhood Organization sells it to a Contractor in exchange for repairs
  • Neighborhood Accountability Board. Northeast, Indian Mound and Lykins
  • Free yard waste drop off sites in Northland and South Kansas City

Animal Ordinance Violations

Handles offenses related to the safety and welfare of animals, and increases resident safety from animals that may run at large or bite.
