For over 30 years, Kansas City has been identifying potential connector streets in a "Major Street Plan." This plan determines the City’s future roadway network and identifies the roads that should be primary thoroughfares or connectors. Streets added to the Major Street Plan may accommodate more traffic in the future while streets removed from the Major Street Plan will likely keep their current character in the future.
The original Major Street Plan was adopted on September 28, 1989, and the list of streets included in the plan is updated every few years. The most recent version of the Major Streets Plan is from 2016, and can be viewed here. Kansas City is in the process of updating the Major Street Plan.
