Sidewalk Design Inspections

Approved by KCMO City Council in August 2017, Sidewalk Design Inspections use a data-driven points system to prioritize sidewalk inspections so that we can inventory the condition of sidewalks across KCMO.  

*This prioritization process is used for sidewalk inspections, not for sidewalk repair or construction.

The condition data collected through Sidewalk Design Inspections is one of many important pieces that inform sidewalk repair through the GO Bond Sidewalk Program. 750 miles of sidewalk were inspected starting in 2019 and were completed at the end of 2020. Below is a map of sidewalk defects based on these sidewalk inspections:

 

Community Engagement

Staff and consultants conducted public outreach at over 15 different meetings in fall 2019 to engage with residents, provide information about the sidewalk design inspections and an update on the sidewalk program.
