The City of Kansas City, Mo. takes a view of sustainability which incorporates green programs into a broader triple bottom line approach that simultaneously promotes social equity, economic vitality and environmental quality. Kansas City adopted the Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan in 2022. To our progress view the Climate Plan Action board.

Sustainable Communities
The City is fostering a culture of sustainability both internally and throughout the community. Internally, the ECO Employee Resource Group (Environment, Collaboration, Opportunity) empowers City staff to integrate sustainable practices into their daily work and strengthen collaboration across departments.
Externally, the Green Team Alliance supports neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, faith communities, and other community groups by providing resources, networking, and technical assistance to help implement local sustainability projects that advance Kansas City's Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan. Together, these initiatives build a citywide culture of sustainability from the inside out, enabling both employees and residents to become active partners in creating a more resilient, healthy, and environmentally responsible Kansas City.

During this initial phase, we are actively recruiting teams to join the Green Team Alliance. Please complete the participation form to share your information, and Sustainable Community Coordinator Kellie Herman will reach out to learn more about your work and how the Alliance can support it.
As a participating team leader, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your skills as a project leader and implementer.
